Our Process

Whether you're interested in learning more about granite countertops in Hingham, MA or you're ready to place an order ASAP, our easy and informational ordering process ensures your satisfaction. Here's how it works:

Granite Countertops Hingham, MA

Have questions about our countertop installation process? We're here to help – contact our office in Harwich, and we'd be happy to give you a more detailed explanation. Now that you have the rundown on our process let's take a look at some of the most popular countertop material choices available at Granite World, Inc.

Before placing an order, by stopping by our shop or by a request through email, our sales rep gathers all the information necessary such as customers name, address, phone number and email to proceed with the stone selection process. Our sales team will guide you towards this process as well as all the details related to the project. A material must be selected to work on an estimate along with the rough dimensions given by the client or contractor. As soon as stone is picked out and all factors are discussed, a quote is created for customer's review. Once approved, the order for the material is placed making sure it will be delivered in time for your project. Templates are scheduled by first availability and the lead time for fabrication is up to 15 business days, starting from the date when we receive all the necessary information. Please note that any missing details – such as the type of sink you have, number of faucet holes, and edge choice – may cause a delay in your order, even if your template has been completed. Our team will make every effort to complete your order as soon as possible based on the availability of slabs and the time required for fabrication.

Your job site will be ready for your template once cabinets, panels, and all necessary appliances such as your stove, cooktop, faucet, draft, and other items are on site. If by any chance all the above are not ready by the template date a re-template charge will be at customers expensive.

You should have a look at your slabs and approve them before a template for your countertop is created. Once your template is complete, we recommend that you participate when your layout is finished, before your slab is sent for fabrication.

It is mandatory for the homeowner or a designated decision-maker who is over 18 years of age to be present during the entire template process. This person will be required to answer questions related to:
  • Corner Radius
  • Seaming
  • Overhangs
  • Other Special Designs
For that reason, we recommended that this person should be familiar with your project. This person will also be asked to initial the template and paperwork related to the project. To create your granite, quartz, or other type of countertop, Granite World uses a laser template system. If we are templating over an existing countertop, everything must be removed from the counter to get accurate measurements. The laser software we use is very sensitive, so it is necessary to clear the room of any other work being done. If there are people walking around the room and causing the equipment to move, we won't be able to measure, and we will have to reschedule the appointment at the customer's expense.

At Granite World, our team calculates the price of your order based on the measurements you provided to us during your initial consultation. Once your template is complete, our team will re-calculate the necessary square footage for installation. If it differs from the initial measurement, we'll adjust the price accordingly.

In case there's a request on time of sale to remove the countertop that we will be replacing at an extra cost, we require the plumbing to be disconnected as we do not provide plumbing services. We also do not reconnect sinks, faucets, or cooktops after install. The removal is done at the same time as installation. If you require an under-mount installation, we will cut out, polish, and drill the surface to accept mounting brackets. As for drop-in sinks and cooktops, we will cut out the necessary holes on-site, and some dusting should be expected during the process.

Avoid completing the final wall preparation, such as painting or wallpapering, prior to installation, if possible. Although our installers will take precautions during the countertop installation process, it is still possible to cause scrapes, punctures, or digs. Any such damages are considered incidental, and it is the responsibility of the customer to repair them.

Seaming on your countertop is determined by the fabricators. These seams typically range from 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch and may be visible to the naked eye or felt to the touch. To form the seam and blend it in with the countertop, color-coordinated epoxy will be used. While customers will be consulted regarding seam location, the fabricator reserves the right to make adjustments if necessary.

It should be noted that residual dust should be expected during installation. You may want to cover areas of your home to prevent dust from the construction area. We will leave your home in broom condition.

Granite Countertops in Hingham, MA: The Natural Choice for Durability and Versatility

Granite is one of the most popular natural stones in the market. As an igneous rock, the granite you're considering was once molten. It was formed as it cooled inside the earth. It is quarried from the mountains of Italy, the U.S., India, Brazil, China, and dozens of other countries around the world. Here at Granite World, we are passionate about this high-quality natural stone and recommend it for a variety of installation purposes, such as kitchen countertops, floors, and other surfaces that undergo heavy usage.

Minerals within the granite look like flecks and are what give it the classic "salt and pepper" look. Other types have veining similar to marble. Generally speaking, granite is a dense-grained, hard stone that can be highly polished or finished in a variety of ways depending on your family's needs. A broad spectrum of colors is available to match the color palette and feel of your home.

What Makes Granite Counters So Popular?

Granite is a highly durable and attractive option for kitchen countertops, floors, table tops, and exterior applications like cladding and curbing. It is available in a range of colors and has been rated as the best overall performer among kitchen countertop materials by a leading consumer magazine.

Unlike synthetic surfaces, granite is incredibly resistant to scratches and heat damage. It is also highly resistant to bacteria and does not get affected by substances like citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, or wine. Even with regular use, granite does not stain easily and is almost impossible to scratch. If you want to enhance your granite's resistance to staining, our team can provide you with more information about sealants available on the market.

3 Timeless Ways to Complement Your Granite Countertops in Hingham, MA

If you are looking to add a touch of elegance to your kitchen, granite countertops can be a great option. With their intricate patterns and wide range of colors, they can transform a bland cooking space into a bright and merry room. However, since granite counters often steal the proverbial show, it can be tricky to design your kitchen around them.

Keep these easy design tips from the Granite World team in mind once you settle on the color and application of your granite counters:

Granite World Hingham, MA

1. Granite Countertop Decor

Keeping your kitchen looking tidy and organized requires avoiding cluttering your countertops with too many items and decorations. However, you can still enhance the look of your kitchen by adding a few carefully selected decorative items. If your granite countertops have specks of bright colors like green or purple, you can try using appliances, flowers, or decorations in those colors to make the specks in your countertops stand out. This will add a pop of color to your kitchen and elevate its overall appearance.

Granite Countertops Hingham, MA

2. Cabinet Color

Brown, tan, and gray hues are all very popular color choices for granite kitchen countertops. As such, it's wise to choose a cabinet color that complements the natural tones of your countertops. That way, you can avoid creating an overwhelming look in your space. A warm white or a deep, moody color can be used to highlight the beauty of the countertops. If you prefer stained cabinets, pick a shade that matches the colors of your countertops.

3. Floor Pattern

Having a bold pattern on both your countertops and your floors can make your kitchen look cluttered and overwhelming. If you have granite kitchen countertops, it's a good idea to opt for a simple floor design. Choosing a plain tile or wood floor is usually a safe and practical choice.

Quartz Countertops: Elegant Design and Easy Maintenance

Quartz is a type of igneous rock that is made up of oxygen and silicon atoms in a continuous structure of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra (SiO4). It is one of the most abundant minerals on the planet and has been used in the production of kitchen and bathroom countertops for many years. Much like granite countertops in Hingham, MA quartz is an excellent option as it is highly durable and requires minimal maintenance.

Why Do Homeowners in Massachusetts Love Quartz Kitchen Counters?

When it comes to stone choices for your kitchen countertops, quartz ranks among the best choices available. But why? Let's find out.

Beauty

Beauty

Quartz countertops have become increasingly popular in kitchens, and for good reason. They are designed to imitate the everlasting beauty of natural stone, providing a wide range of captivating colors and patterns. Whether you prefer the sophistication of marble or the simplicity of solid colors, quartz offers endless options to match your preferences. With professional installation services from Granite World Inc., quartz kitchen countertops can effortlessly enhance the visual appeal of any room.

Durability

Durability

As a homeowner, you're probably aware of how quickly kitchen countertops can get worn out. Luckily, quartz is a material that can withstand the daily rigors of wear and tear – even if you have kids. That's because quartz is a unique blend of natural quartz crystals, resins, and pigments, making it a highly durable surface. With quartz countertops, you don't have to worry endlessly about scratches or stains ruining the beauty of your kitchen. It is a highly resistant material, making it an ideal choice for busy kitchens and bathrooms that see a lot of activity. In fact, its scratch, stain, and heat-resistant properties make it perfect for everyday use.

Easy Maintenance

Easy Maintenance

It can be frustrating to spend your weekends cleaning and maintaining your countertops. However, by choosing quartz countertops, you can eliminate one task from your to-do list. Quartz surfaces are non-absorbent, meaning that liquids won't seep in, and bacteria won't be able to breed. If there are spills, cleaning them up is as easy as wiping the surface down with a mild detergent and water. There's no need to spend hours scrubbing, buffing, or polishing. As an added bonus, you won't have to worry about sealing your countertops regularly, as you would with granite or marble.

Granite World Pro Tip: Is quartz tough? Yes. Is it indestructible? Unfortunately, it is not. Quartz is a surface that can be damaged permanently by exposure to strong chemicals and solvents that can weaken its physical properties. You should avoid using products that contain trichloroethane or methylene chloride, such as paint removers or strippers. Also, stay away from any highly aggressive cleaning agents like oven or grill cleaners that have high alkaline and PH levels.

Massachusetts is steeped in American history, coastal charm, and New England character, yet many of its most captivating towns are quietly tucked away, often overshadowed by larger cities like Boston or popular vacation spots like Cape Cod. These small towns are rich with personality, offering scenic landscapes, unique attractions, tight-knit communities, and cultural depth. This list highlights eight of the most underrated towns in Massachusetts in 2025—perfect for travelers and prospective residents seeking authenticity without the crowds.

Rockport

Rockport, located on the tip of Cape Ann, is often bypassed by visitors heading for nearby Gloucester or the outer Cape. Yet this seaside town offers an extraordinary blend of natural beauty, cultural depth, and small-town tranquility. The town’s signature red fishing shack, Motif No. 1, is said to be one of the most painted buildings in the United States and is the focus of an annual community festival held in mid-May. Art galleries line Bearskin Neck, and the Shalin Liu Performance Center offers concerts with panoramic ocean views. Sandy beaches, coastal hikes at Halibut Point State Park, and lobster shacks round out the charm of one of the North Shore’s most rewarding destinations.

Great Barrington

Nestled in the Berkshires, Great Barrington is often eclipsed by neighboring towns like Stockbridge and Lenox. However, it possesses a dynamic blend of artistic flair, natural beauty, and community spirit. Downtown is filled with independent bookstores, local cafes, art galleries, and boutique shops. The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center offers a year-round schedule of film, music, and theater. Outdoor enthusiasts can ski at Butternut Basin in winter or hike Monument Mountain in the warmer months. Its status as a vibrant yet low-key cultural hub makes it a gem for travelers seeking something a little more offbeat.

Shelburne Falls

This enchanting village in western Massachusetts is best known for its Flower Bridge—a decommissioned trolley bridge now overflowing with colorful blooms. Despite this beauty, it can be overlooked by tourists who are more focused on Pioneer Valley or the Berkshires. Shelburne Falls boasts a thriving arts scene, with artisan galleries, glassblowing studios, and a series of mosaic murals along the Riverwalk. The glacial potholes along the Deerfield River are a natural wonder, particularly stunning in spring and fall. The community is warm and welcoming, frequently hosting events such as the Heath Fair agricultural festival, held annually in August.

Ipswich

Despite being one of the oldest towns in America and boasting a hard-to-match collection of 17th-century homes, Ipswich tends to receive less notice than the nearby towns of Salem and Newburyport. Located along the North Shore, Ipswich is rich in colonial and maritime history. It is home to the Crane Estate, a grand early 20th-century mansion overlooking miles of conservation land and beach, all of which are now open to the public. The Ipswich River offers kayaking and peaceful walks, while the aforementioned Crane Beach is one of the most pristine stretches of sand in the state. The town also has a growing food and beer scene, another factor that makes Ipswich’s relative lack of crowds a pleasant surprise.

Deerfield

Historic Deerfield is a beautifully preserved colonial village that provides a living history experience unlike anywhere else in New England. Despite this, it is not a tourist-heavy destination on the level of Concord or Plymouth. The town features restored 18th- and 19th-century homes and museums showcasing early American life, all nestled among maple trees and stone walls. The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association curates one of the best regional history museums in the area. Beyond history, the surrounding Pioneer Valley offers four seasons of outdoor adventure in the form of hiking, river rafting, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and more.

Orleans

Although it sits on Cape Cod, Orleans often gets passed over for flashier destinations like Chatham or Provincetown. That makes it an ideal place for those seeking natural beauty and serenity without the tourist crush. Orleans is bordered by both the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod Bay, offering easy access to Nauset Beach and Skaket Beach. The town’s compact downtown is home to bookstores, art galleries, and locally owned restaurants, and hosts annual events like Arts Week in April and the Cherry Blossom Festival in May. Orleans also offers access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which winds for 25 miles through forests and salt marshes.

North Adams

Situated in the northern Berkshires, North Adams has a rugged post-industrial beauty and a thriving arts scene, anchored by MASS MoCA—one of the largest contemporary art museums in the U.S. North Adams has also revitalized its downtown, which hosts an annual community celebration in August, with cafes, galleries, and creative workspaces. The surrounding hills offer hiking and skiing, especially on Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts. The town’s transition from mill town to creative outpost is impressive, yet its gritty aesthetic and industrial past mean it is still a hidden gem for those outside the immediate area, who are not aware of its transformation.

Hingham

Located south of Boston on the South Shore, Hingham is a coastal gem that often gets bypassed for the more well-known Cape Cod towns. However, the town’s quiet charm and refined character offer visitors a perfect blend of history and nature. With a walkable harbor, historic Main Street, and colonial architecture, Hingham feels like a movie set. It is home to the Derby Academy (founded in 1784), and several of the oldest churches and homes in the state. The town also boasts World’s End, a stunning Trustees of Reservations park with coastal trails and sweeping waterfront views.

Massachusetts is full of well-known destinations, but its lesser-known towns are often the places where the real magic happens. These eight underrated gems offer a deeper, quieter, and more meaningful experience of the Bay State. Whether you are looking for nature, history, art, or local flavor, each of these towns offers something unique without the crowds. As 2025 unfolds, consider stepping off the main road to discover what these remarkable small towns have to offer. You may just find your new favorite place!

Linden Ponds' resident-run tutoring program offered to all staff members

Hingham, MA - Betty McIntyre and Mimi FitzGerald, residents of Linden Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community in Hingham, Mass., recently helped make a staff member's dream come true.

For nearly a year, they worked with Sandra Brandao, a member of the housekeeping staff, as she studied for her U.S. citizenship test.

"Betty and Mimi are wonderful," Brandao says. "They did a very, very good job, preparing me well for the exam."

Their meetings were part of Linden Ponds' highly respected resident-run tutoring program, offered to all staff members. The program ranges from English language skills, like literacy and reading, to U.S. citizenship applications and test preparation.

Powerful partnership

A native of Cape Verde in Africa, Brandao has been working at Linden Ponds for two years.

When she expressed a desire to work with resident tutors to improve her English language skills and prepare for the U.S. citizenship test, the program's leadership team--led by Jane Wagner and Denise Yess--paired her with Betty and Mimi.

"Our tutors are open to help any employee that comes forward with a desire to learn," says Jane. "We work to match them with the tutor that is best for their individual needs."

The trio met for an hour every week to help her prepare for the test and interview. Brandao also received a citizenship preparation study book and financial support, funded by donations from residents, to help cover the naturalization fees.

"I wanted to become a citizen so that I could vote. I'm very excited to do that," Brandao says.

Training the tutors

New tutors receive an orientation, training, materials, and mentoring from more experienced tutors before being paired up with an employee.

"Although many of our tutors are former educators, teaching adults--especially those who may have limited English--is usually something new," notes Jane. "Or, teaching may be a new experience to them entirely. We try to provide support for all of our volunteers."

She adds, "Often, our tutors will mention that they get as much, or more, out of participating in the tutoring program than their students. It's a wonderful learning experience for both parties."

For Betty, a former middle and high school English teacher, working with Brandao was her first program pairing. Mimi quickly became an integral part of the trio.

A rewarding experience

"It's a rewarding experience to work with someone becoming a U.S. citizen," says Mimi. "Our Linden Ponds tutoring program is very unique. It's one of the most rewarding things we can do, volunteering our time and helping someone in such a meaningful way. Everyone comes out a winner."

Betty, who attended Brandao's citizenship ceremony, agrees.

"Both of my parents were immigrants and my father became a citizen before I was born," says Betty.

"This was the first time that I'd been to a citizenship ceremony, and it is quite a celebration."

She continues, "Working with Sandra was a wonderful experience. I'm so happy and proud of her. It's remarkable to witness what she has accomplished in just under a year. She is a special person, warm and loving. In addition to working, she cares for three little children, along with her husband, at home."

Continued achievements

Since her naturalization ceremony, Brandao has continued to meet weekly with Betty and Mimi to work on improving her English vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills.

"Our sessions are always fun. One of my favorite things is getting Sandra to laugh," says Betty.

"I am very thankful for all the help. I am learning so much," says Brandao.

"One of the things I appreciate most about the tutoring program is the impact on community building," says Jane. "By working together, residents and staff are developing a special, different kind of relationship--one that helps them understand each other better."

"It's powerful to see the impact tutoring has on a person's life," adds Mimi. "Sandra appreciates the education she's received. She has ambitions not only for herself, but a dream for all three of her children to go to college."

As Brandao continues her studies as a new U.S. citizen, the sky's the limit for what she can achieve in her life--and her career at Linden Ponds.

"It is not unusual for employees in the tutoring program to experience a positive career change or promotion at Linden Ponds. Some have even moved up to supervisory levels. That's gratifying to all of us," says Jane.

Hingham, MA - Residents in the woodshop at Linden Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community in Hingham, Mass have been busy volunteering their time building wooden toys and games for preschoolers who attend Head Start in Brockton and surrounding communities. The toys and games are used to teach the children important skills such as counting, spelling, shape recognition, and sharing.

“The Linden Ponds woodshop attracts a diverse array of artisans, crafters, hobbyists, wood workers along with a stained glass artisan and silver smith,” said Linden Ponds resident Tom Zarle. “It’s also used by residents who like to tinker with wood, repair a picture frame or just need a screw or hook to hang a picture. Members also assist in building sets for theatre productions here at Linden Ponds. We are thrilled we can make toys and games for children who attend Head Start.”

There are two display windows at the Linden Ponds woodshop so other residents can see what they are all creating. Residents display their work in the windows so residents and team members can see their projects. In addition to making wooden toys, they also build bookcases, bowl turning, lathe work, model ship building, wood carving, repair work for their fellow residents, and much more.
