It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Johnson, a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. Stephen passed peacefully on Jan. 21, surrounded by the warmth and love of his friends and family.
Born on Sept. 1, 1971, Stephen was a native of Duxbury, where he spent his formative years and left an indelible mark on the community he called home. He received his education at Thayer Academy where he excelled at music and art, captained the soccer and lacrosse teams, and made lifelong friendships.
His passion for the arts blossomed when he became the apprentice to his mentor, Thomas Dunlay. For three transformative years, Stephen immersed himself in the world of painting, allowing his creative spirit to flourish. Stephen grew up playing golf, which became a lifelong hobby that he enjoyed with his father, brother, nephews and friends. He cherished summer vacations to Colorado and Martha’s Vineyard where he spent time with his many close cousins.
A true artisan at heart, Stephen’s passion for creativity knew no bounds. While living in Boston, he founded the Nantucket Shell Light Company and found success at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. His creations adorned homes and businesses, a testament to his talent and commitment to celebrating the natural wonders of his surroundings.
Stephen’s passion for music led him to become a member of the local 1940s singing group, The Snugtones, with whom he shared 20 years of joyous performing. During his time with the group, he shared a loving relationship with Diana Scally (Barnes) and her two sons, Colin and Carter. Stephen and Diana remained great friends over the years and his close relationship with Colin and Carter continued to be one of Stephen’s greatest sources of pride and joy.
Stephen’s entrepreneurial spirit continued to shine as he ventured into the world of health and wellness. He opened Lido Juice Bar in Cohasset, which quickly became a local favorite, known for its delicious and nutritious offerings. He eventually moved his business to the Kingsbury Club in Kingston and soon after opened everyone’s favorite food truck – The Hummingbird. In addition to his culinary offerings, he was loved by his patrons and regulars for his optimistic cheer and endless good conversation.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Stephen was a multifaceted individual. He was a gifted painter whose canvases reflected his deep appreciation for the beauty of the world around him. He was a talented writer, regaling friends with his hilarious short stories and thoughtful poetry. Stephen could breathe life into any piano, making your favorite classical pieces jump to life and transforming any melody into his own raucous celebration.
His most treasured moments were spent with the people he surrounded himself with. His open heart, open door, hospitable warmth and witty sense of humor made every occasion memorable.
Stephen is predeceased by his parents, Dwight and Rebecca Johnson of Duxbury. He leaves behind his siblings, Jennifer Andersen and husband, Nels, David Johnson, Elizabeth Andrew and husband, Chris, all of Duxbury. He will be greatly missed by his eight adoring nieces and nephews and their spouses, Alex and Nicole Andersen, Karl and Julia Andersen, Erica and Brenton Pitt, Troy and Cathy Andersen, Myles Andrew, Marshall Andrew, Dylan Andrew and Charlie Andrew. He also leaves behind nine great nieces and nephews. Stephen will also be missed by his many best friends, including the “Boathouse” crew, all of whom he considered family.
Stephen’s life was a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and love. He touched the lives of countless people and left behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and artistic brilliance. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A memorial service to celebrate Stephen’s life will be held on Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Stephen’s memory to a charity of your choice. May Stephen’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us all to embrace our creative passions and our relationships with deep love and enthusiasm, just as he did.

Joan Claire (Keefe) Doscher passed into eternal life on 10/25/2023. Joan was born 4/29/1935 at South Shore Hospital to parents Sarah and Thomas Keefe of Hingham, MA. Due to her mother’s early death, Joan was brought up in foster care until the age of 16 when her devoted Aunt Rose and Uncle Henry Higgins took her into their home in East Weymouth. In 1956 Miss Keefe graduated from the Academy of Moderne Modeling School in Boston – surprisingly this did not generate an successful jobs.
Meeting the love of her life on Wessagusset Beach in Weymouth in 1954, Albert Doscher of Brooklyn, NY. Getting married in 1959, living in Weymouth until 1963 when they moved to Duxbury with 3 year old daughter, Eileen Rose, Foster son, Barry Shannahan also age 3, Timothy Joseph newborn and her brother Patrick Keefe a teenager. Julie Mary and Matthew Albert complete the family in 1966 and 1968. Joan held positions in Duxbury High School library, the Town Hall, the Duxbury Senior Center and Welch Care Corp until 2009 when she retired.
Mrs. Doscher enjoyed time on Duxbury Beaches, entertaining, cooking and photography. Family and friends were her life. Hingham and Weymouth clubs and a wide circle of Duxbury friends. Believing in giving back to the community that meant so much to her, Joan volunteered at Holy Family, the Senior Center, Duxbury Thrift shop and in earlier years the Friends of Cerebral Palsy and Pine Street Inn.
Preceded in death by an infant son, Eric Francis (1969), her husband Al (1984), brother Michael Keefe (2016), sister Mary Ann Sacre (2018) and brother Patrick Martin Keefe (2023). Leaving her daughters Eileen and husband Arthur, Julie and her husband David and sons Timothy and Matthew all of Duxbury. Brother Thomas Keefe and wife Maureen (Rockland). Sister in laws Renate Doscher (New Brunswick, NJ) and Judy Keefe (Weymouth). Cherished grandchildren: Jeffrey, Lauren and Christopher Bertoni, Samantha, Craig and Cameron Borjeson. Also, dearly loved Doscher, Keefe, Arieta and Sacre nieces and nephews.

DUXBURY - It has almost been one year since the tragedy that took the lives of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy. Now, there is a new effort to help the Clancy family and the community of Duxbury heal.
"When something tragic happens I think that you look around for what can you do, and when something is really difficult like this, it's hard to know," Mell Kelleher told WBZ-TV.
Kelleher is a member of The Clancy Children Playground Committee. It's a group of ten local women, all health care professionals, who have made it their mission to make sure the Clancy children are not forgotten.
"All the committee members had the same goal in mind of getting this playground built in honor of these beautiful children," Kelleher said.
The committee turned to Where Angels Play, a New Jersey-based foundation that specializes in creating joyful spaces like playgrounds as a way to promote healing and recovery in the wake of a tragedy.
"We don't focus on how they left, but how they lived," Where Angels Play founder Bill Lavin told WBZ. "Not everyone wants to go to a cemetery or a church. Historically, these playgrounds have provided healing in the most tragic of circumstances."
Lavin started the foundation back in 2012 after the back-to-back tragedies of Hurricane Sandy and Sandy Hook. The foundation built 26 playgrounds, one to honor the memory of each teacher or student lost in Newtown, Connecticut.
"I think just being human and knowing what people have gone through. It impacted everybody. You didn't need to be a mother or a grandmother, the community suffered with the family," committee member Beth Brooks told WBZ.
Brooks says that Cora, Dawson and Callan's father Patrick Clancy will be involved in the design every step of the way to make sure the playground embodies the children's personalities and spirit.
"Really every decision went through the kids' dad. He gave us his blessing very early on that this was a project that was very important to him. Cora loved unicorns and Dawson loved firetrucks and Callan's spirit was all about happiness," Brooks said. "So that will be the vision for the playground, to bring that to the community for their friends to play there and for the entire community to heal."
"It is going to be a joyful place after tragedy," Kelleher added.
The Clancy Children Playground Committee raised $120,000 at a recent gala, but still needs to raise another $180,000.

WESTWOOD — For the fourth time in five years, Duxbury will be playing December football in Foxboro.
The No. 1 Dragons ground out a 19-7 win over No. 4 Tewksbury on Saturday at Xaverian Brothers High School to advance to their third straight Division 4 final and fourth consecutive Super Bowl overall.
"That was what I call a gritty performance," Duxbury coach Matt Landolfi said. "(Tewksbury) had a really good game plan and got us moving around a lot on defense. They got us a few times on the sidelines but our kids really stuck with the game plan and adjusted when we needed to adjust."
The Dragons (9-1) were led by a defense that forced four turnovers on downs for Tewksbury (7-4), including a red zone stop early in fourth quarter when it looked almost certain to score and take the lead.
"Absolutely huge," Landolfi said. "That takes a lot of guts."
On offense, Barlow led the way with 12 carries for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns, the first from from 24 yards out and the second a punch in from the 3-yard line to make it a two-score game.
"He’s an amazing player," Landolfi said. "We knew we were going to have to ride him when we get into these situations."
Junior quarterback Trevor Jones went 4-for-11 passing for 97 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown pass to senior running back Thomas Sheehan to open the scoring. He also carried the ball for over 70 yards.

For Tewksbury, senior running back Tyler Barnes led the way with 16 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Duxbury found the end zone in both the first and second quarters, but a blocked extra point attempt held them at 13-0. Barnes put Tewksbury on the board with an 8-yard run to make it 13-7 with 2:05 left in the half and the team from the Merrimack Valley made it all the way to the Dragons' 27 before time expired.
"We went in at halftime and said, ‘They gave us a little punch in the mouth there’ and we needed to respond, so our kids stepped up and made plays when they needed to make plays and that’s the difference in the game," Landolfi said.
Early in the fourth quarter, Duxbury put up the big stop on its 15 and, on the resulting drive Barlow scored his insurance touchdown with 4:13 to play.
The Dragons will now face a familiar foe in No. 7 Scituate (8-3), which won 14-13 in the team's 2021 Division 4 Super Bowl matchup.
Meanwhile, Marshfield (7-2) scored a 52-40 win over perennial powerhouse Catholic Memorial to advance to the Division 2 Super Bowl. Before then, however, the Dragons and Rams have one more meeting on Thanksgiving.
"Heck of a win for them and that’ll be a challenge on Thanksgiving," Landolfi said. "We’ll see where the chips fall on Thanksgiving and the state championship."
