According to the Patriot Ledger, the brewery broke the news with the a sobering Facebook post: "It's been a fun ride, but every road comes to an end. The burdens of inflation, rising costs of materials, and equipment maintenance, combined with the constant regulatory challenges presented to us since our move have made it clear that we had to make the hardest of decisions." Article Fifteen Brewing intends to keep its taps flowing on Fridays and Saturdays until the end of the month, inviting patrons to help them "drink up and say goodbye to our home away from home."
In a venture steeped in service, Article Fifteen opened its doors back in 2017 in Weymouth, only to relocate to 406 VFW Drive, Rockland, MA, in the summer of 2022. Beyond just beers, the brewery founders Leo David Reardon and Laramie Struble shared a kinship steeped in military valor, with both serving as Combat Medics following the aftermath of 9/11—Reardon taking on roles as an EMT, Firefighter, and Rescue Technician, and Struble joining the fray with the elite 82nd Airborne Division. ROCKLAND – Voters on Monday will decide − again − whether to approve a proposed tax increase to fund a new fire station. And then maybe a third time.
Rockland’s only fire station, at 360 Union St., was built in the 1939 under the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration’s public works program and expanded in 1978. Town Administrator Doug Lapp said the town has grown considerably since then, and that the station is “completely out of date” and “way too small."
Photos posted to the town’s website show crowded living quarters and a tiny gap between a fire truck and equipment lockers lined up against the wall of one of the station’s bays.
Plans to remedy the situation were stymied at the town election April 8 when 55% of voters rejected a proposal to finance the $33.2 million project through a Proposition 2½ temporary tax override, known as a debt exclusion.
Passed in 1980, Proposition 2½ is a law that prevents a city or town from raising the total amount collected in property taxes by more than 2.5% over what was collected in the previous year without voter approval.
According to Rockland projections, the proposal would increase annual property taxes on the average home – which is valued at $446,925 – by $329 for the bulk of the 30-year bond.
If residents approve the plan by a two-thirds majority at town meeting Monday, the board of selectmen can call for a special election, which would send Rockland voters back to the polls.
“At the April 8 election, people voted without the benefit of town meeting first,” Lapp said. “Once they’ve seen, heard, listened and participated to a back and forth at town meeting, there may be a different result.”
If the plan passes those two hurdles, the new station would be built a couple of blocks away from the existing one, at 99 Church St. The town owns the property, which includes the abandoned Lincoln School, which Lapp called “dilapidated.” That building would be demolished to make way for the new headquarters. The demolition is included in the $33.2 million price tag.
The new station would occupy a two-story, 23,000-square-foot building, with surrounding space for parking, maneuvering the fleet from six apparatus bays and ladder training in the rear. The staff’s living quarters, including bunking rooms and additional office space, would be on the second floor.
Rockland's town meeting will take place Monday at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium. The motion to fund the new fire station is Article 84 on the warrant.
The town put the article last on the warrant because it is expected to draw the most interest, thereby encouraging residents to vote on the other articles. Lapp said Rockland town meetings tend to move quickly and that he doesn't expect it to drag on late into the night.

There are millions of people who play golf, but one of the top 30 best golfers in the world got their start in Rockland, Massachusetts.
Megan Khang spends her time draining putts in Major championships nowadays, but her journey in golf goes back to before she even picked up a club.
Her father, Lee Khang, said, "We're a product of the Vietnam War. We're Hmong from Laos and found asylum here. Thirty-three years later, I discovered golf, and it's the most important thing I've ever discovered."
His love for the game grew, and he became a golf coach. Megan was his first student.
Lee said, "I convinced her to go to a golf course with me. She'd drive the car around so I could play golf."
"Whenever I would go to the golf course, I would get a soft serve ice cream. So that's how I associated golf back in the day," said Megan.
"Every time you play, there's a lesson in it. If you don't learn from golf, you didn't learn in life. So that's why it's so important," said Lee.

The rest is history. She took the game and ran with it. Her talents led her to a spot in the U.S. Women's Open at just 14 years old.
Megan said, "When I started playing tournaments and got my first win, it felt nice being the only one getting the trophy."
Now she's 25 and one of the best in the world. WCVB got to watch her work up close, and she broke the course record at the nine-hole Harmon Club with a six-under, 29.
Lee says he and his wife Nou Koe didn't know how good Megan was until someone told him, but it's safe to say they know now.
"We watch these people I like on TV and see my child playing in the field. I'm like, 'Is this really happening?'" he said.
Koe said, "I always tell Megan it doesn't matter what age you are. I'm always going to be your mom. You're always going to be my baby."
Lee said, "She thinks I'm really hard, but I'm actually really soft inside, especially when it comes to her. I already told her to stop trying so hard and just play because you're freaking amazing. She probably doesn't believe this, but I would cry I would. I promise you, I'm never biased, but she truly has the ability to do things that most people only can dream of."

The Cohasset boys basketball team showed some solid mental toughness on Tuesday night with a solid 48-36 win at home over Rockland.
The game could have been a disaster when Cohasset fell behind 11-0 before taking a timeout with 3:16 left to play in the first quarter.
The Skippers, who improved to 6-3 with the win, responded in a big way, scoring the next 14 points fueled by Luke Moore, who was the sparkplug for the team, scoring 18 points in the game, five during the 14-0 run.
Moore also stepped up late, knocking down eight points in the fourth quarter.
“Trying to come back, facing adversity our whole thing is keeping intensity,” Moore said, referencing a word that players and coaches take to heart this season, intensity. “Once we got a couple of stops on defense that opened things up for us on the other end and set us up to come back.”
At the end of the first quarter, the Skippers had cut the lead to 11-5 and that intensity showed from the start of it.
A couple of the big plays were when Sam Larsen, who finished with 12 points and a number of big rebounds, including one where he got the rebound and the putback while adding a free throw that cut that lead to 11-5.
Cohasset took a 21-15 edge into the half with the final points of the second quarter coming on a three by Moore, his second in the frame.
Jack Cullinan also had a big three-pointer in the second quarter to up a 14-13 lead to 17-13 with 4:31 to go.
Cullinan (12 points) may have had the biggest play of the night with an old-fashioned three-point play, stealing the ball near the Rockland bench and flying for a layup on the other end with 4:06 left in the game.
Cullinan was fouled on the play and made the free throw to give Cohasset a 40-31 lead.
Rockland rallied to score the next five points to cut the lead to 40-36, but Moore followed with six straight points, going baseline for a 42-36 lead, then grabbing a rebound and knocking down a jumper near the free throw line following with a drive inside with 1:20 to play for a 46-36 lead.
Larsen closed out the scoring taking a feed from Cullinan after a Cullinan steal.
Moore credited his teammates for the success.
“It’s all thanks to my teammates,” he said. “They found me when I was open and I was able to make the easy shots. They made it easy for me. I thought everyone played great, especially on the defensive end. Everyone was able to come up with steals, make blocks, just about everything.”
Cohasset coach Bo Ruggiero likes what he’s been seeing from his defense.
“The level of intensity, especially on the defensive end has become our calling card,” he said. “Tonight we had three guys in double figures, led by Luke Moore who had his high of the year with 18. Jack Cullinan led the show offensively and Sam Larsen had a dozen. We still have some work to do in terms of turnovers which led to some easy buckets fro Rockland, but now we’re at 6-3 and I’m very pleased with the way we’ve been moving at this point, but we still have to get better.”
Ruggiero thought Rockland’s fast start came from their speed.
“In the first three or four minutes they couldn’t quite grasp the pace and physicality Rockland was playing with,” he said. “After that we got a little bit comfortable. A steal here, a bucket, a three-pointer and bingo, we were off to the races.”
Cohasset hosts Abington Friday night at 6:30.
