Granite Countertops in Pembroke, MA: The Natural Choice for Durability and Versatility
Granite is one of the most popular natural stones in the market. As an igneous rock, the granite you're considering was once molten. It was formed as it cooled inside the earth. It is quarried from the mountains of Italy, the U.S., India, Brazil, China, and dozens of other countries around the world. Here at Granite World, we are passionate about this high-quality natural stone and recommend it for a variety of installation purposes, such as kitchen countertops, floors, and other surfaces that undergo heavy usage.
Minerals within the granite look like flecks and are what give it the classic "salt and pepper" look. Other types have veining similar to marble. Generally speaking, granite is a dense-grained, hard stone that can be highly polished or finished in a variety of ways depending on your family's needs. A broad spectrum of colors is available to match the color palette and feel of your home.
What Makes Granite Counters So Popular?
Granite is a highly durable and attractive option for kitchen countertops, floors, table tops, and exterior applications like cladding and curbing. It is available in a range of colors and has been rated as the best overall performer among kitchen countertop materials by a leading consumer magazine.
Unlike synthetic surfaces, granite is incredibly resistant to scratches and heat damage. It is also highly resistant to bacteria and does not get affected by substances like citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, or wine. Even with regular use, granite does not stain easily and is almost impossible to scratch. If you want to enhance your granite's resistance to staining, our team can provide you with more information about sealants available on the market.
Granite World Pro Tip
When it comes to granite countertops, high-end options often equate to unique patterns and enhanced durability. However, a higher price doesn't always guarantee better quality. 3 Timeless Ways to Complement Your Granite Countertops in Pembroke, MA
If you are looking to add a touch of elegance to your kitchen, granite countertops can be a great option. With their intricate patterns and wide range of colors, they can transform a bland cooking space into a bright and merry room. However, since granite counters often steal the proverbial show, it can be tricky to design your kitchen around them.
Keep these easy design tips from the Granite World team in mind once you settle on the color and application of your granite counters:
1. Granite Countertop Decor
Keeping your kitchen looking tidy and organized requires avoiding cluttering your countertops with too many items and decorations. However, you can still enhance the look of your kitchen by adding a few carefully selected decorative items. If your granite countertops have specks of bright colors like green or purple, you can try using appliances, flowers, or decorations in those colors to make the specks in your countertops stand out. This will add a pop of color to your kitchen and elevate its overall appearance.
2. Cabinet Color
Brown, tan, and gray hues are all very popular color choices for granite kitchen countertops. As such, it's wise to choose a cabinet color that complements the natural tones of your countertops. That way, you can avoid creating an overwhelming look in your space. A warm white or a deep, moody color can be used to highlight the beauty of the countertops. If you prefer stained cabinets, pick a shade that matches the colors of your countertops.
3. Floor Pattern
Having a bold pattern on both your countertops and your floors can make your kitchen look cluttered and overwhelming. If you have granite kitchen countertops, it's a good idea to opt for a simple floor design. Choosing a plain tile or wood floor is usually a safe and practical choice.
Quartz Countertops: Elegant Design and Easy Maintenance
Quartz is a type of igneous rock that is made up of oxygen and silicon atoms in a continuous structure of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra (SiO4). It is one of the most abundant minerals on the planet and has been used in the production of kitchen and bathroom countertops for many years. Much like granite countertops in Pembroke, MA quartz is an excellent option as it is highly durable and requires minimal maintenance.
Why Do Homeowners in Massachusetts Love Quartz Kitchen Counters?
When it comes to stone choices for your kitchen countertops, quartz ranks among the best choices available. But why? Let's find out.
Beauty
Quartz countertops have become increasingly popular in kitchens, and for good reason. They are designed to imitate the everlasting beauty of natural stone, providing a wide range of captivating colors and patterns. Whether you prefer the sophistication of marble or the simplicity of solid colors, quartz offers endless options to match your preferences. With professional installation services from Granite World Inc., quartz kitchen countertops can effortlessly enhance the visual appeal of any room.
Durability
As a homeowner, you're probably aware of how quickly kitchen countertops can get worn out. Luckily, quartz is a material that can withstand the daily rigors of wear and tear – even if you have kids. That's because quartz is a unique blend of natural quartz crystals, resins, and pigments, making it a highly durable surface. With quartz countertops, you don't have to worry endlessly about scratches or stains ruining the beauty of your kitchen. It is a highly resistant material, making it an ideal choice for busy kitchens and bathrooms that see a lot of activity. In fact, its scratch, stain, and heat-resistant properties make it perfect for everyday use.
Easy Maintenance
It can be frustrating to spend your weekends cleaning and maintaining your countertops. However, by choosing quartz countertops, you can eliminate one task from your to-do list. Quartz surfaces are non-absorbent, meaning that liquids won't seep in, and bacteria won't be able to breed. If there are spills, cleaning them up is as easy as wiping the surface down with a mild detergent and water. There's no need to spend hours scrubbing, buffing, or polishing. As an added bonus, you won't have to worry about sealing your countertops regularly, as you would with granite or marble.
Granite World Pro Tip: Is quartz tough? Yes. Is it indestructible? Unfortunately, it is not. Quartz is a surface that can be damaged permanently by exposure to strong chemicals and solvents that can weaken its physical properties. You should avoid using products that contain trichloroethane or methylene chloride, such as paint removers or strippers. Also, stay away from any highly aggressive cleaning agents like oven or grill cleaners that have high alkaline and PH levels.

Yet another Massachusetts Friendly’s location has apparently shut down.
The Friendly’s in Pembroke has been marked as permanently closed on Google Maps. A call placed to the number listed with the location came up as no longer being in service.
The Pembroke spot is also no longer listed on Friendly’s website. While it is unclear exactly when the restaurant closed, a post in The Brockton Hub Facebook group suggested it was earlier this month.
MassLive has reached out to Friendly’s parent company, Brix Holdings, for more information.
Friendly’s has lost 90% of its locations in recent years, Eat This, Not That reported, including one on Riverdale Street in West Springfield that closed last year. After filing for bankruptcy in 2011 and again in 2020, Brix Holdings was acquired by Legacy Brands International this past July, who committed to reviving the brand. The investment group managed by Amol Kohli, is a multi-unit franchisee of Friendly’s Restaurants.
The Pembroke closure comes as Friendly’s turns 90 this year. The company was founded by brothers S. Prestley and Curtis Blake in Springfield’s Pine Point neighborhood in 1935.
The chain grew slowly at first, eventually exploding to a high of 800 locations up and down the East Coast by the 1970s. Today, there are only roughly 100 locations left in the U.S., including 22 in Massachusetts.
Friendly’s no longer owns its plant in Wilbraham. But it is currently operated by Dairy Farmers of America making ice cream for Friendly’s restaurants as well as for sale in supermarkets. The chain is also no longer headquartered in Western Massachusetts, but on Long Island, New York.

HANOVER – There are just some high school football games that will always be remembered.
In a Patriot League showdown for the ages, Brandon Errico made his moment count. The senior wideout had a career night, corralling nine receptions for 163 yards receiving while finishing with four total touchdowns as Hanover (2-2) defeated rival Pembroke (2-2) in an instant classic, 48-40.
“Coming off of two losses and a bye-week, we were pretty banged up,” said Errico. “We just needed to get back in the win column. That was incredible.”
Many felt that this matchup of Fisher Division rivals could be close, given how the teams have played so far. Pembroke drew first blood by forcing a safety, and the Titans had a 2-0 lead just 2:41 into play.
After virtually no offense whatsoever in the opening frame, fireworks ensued in the second quarter. Hanover responded with a long drive, capped off by a six-yard touchdown scamper by Errico during an end-around. Max Morin hit Peter Clarke for a two-point pass, and the Hawks seized an 8-2 advantage.
Then on the next drive, a 34-yard completion from Anthony Pento to Michael Giese set Pembroke up at the Hanover three-yard-line. Out of a wildcat formation, Titans captain Jake Gasbarro dove across the goal line for a three-yard touchdown rush, as his team jumped back ahead, 9-8.
The lead was short-lived. Seconds later on a kickoff, Errico caught lightning in a bottle, sprinting through a seam before breaking off a 70-yard return for a score to put Hanover right back in front, 15-9 with 3:15 to play in the half.
“I love just slow-playing it,” laughed Errico. “Once I see something, I just hit it, and go.”
Pembroke came back with a methodical drive, milking clock before taking a risk with a 40-yard field goal try. In wild fashion, Giese launched a high-flying boot, which doinked off the post and fell through to trim the deficit to 15-12 at the break.
The shootout continued in the third quarter. After Thomas Regan finished off a long Hanover drive with a six-yard touchdown rush to give his team a seemingly comfortable 21-12 advantage, Pembroke answered again.
Pento launched a pass down the middle of the field. It was contested, but Giese made a miraculous catch, before taking off for a 45-yard touchdown reception. In the blink of an eye, the Titans trimmed the lead back to 21-19 with 7:16 to go in the stanza.
Most would begin to run out of gas by the fourth quarter. Each of these schools just ramped it up. After Pembroke seized a 34-28 lead following a 33-yard touchdown completion from Pento to David Kanya with 10:37 left in regulation, Errico struck again. This time, Morin fed the captain a screen, and the wideout scampered free for a 43-yard touchdown reception to make it a 35-34 game in favor of Hanover two minutes later.
When the Hawks needed a play most in a 42-40 contest late, Morin heaved a pass downfield, looking for one of his other favorite targets. Sebastian Brown hauled in a 57-yard touchdown catch, giving the Hawks a 48-40 lead. They would never relinquish it, as Pembroke came up short on a possible game-tying drive.
Morin finished 19-for-24 with 369 yards passing and three touchdowns for the Hawks. Brown added six catches for 156 yards receiving in addition to his clutch touchdown.
“We talk about it all the time, just being able to forget about the last play and move on,” said Hanover coach Brian Kelliher. “Pembroke is a tough team. Give them credit. They just kept fighting. They made some huge plays on us, but our kids just kept fighting back. We never stopped. So, I’m really proud of their effort.”
