Our Process

Whether you're interested in learning more about granite countertops in Bridgewater, MA or you're ready to place an order ASAP, our easy and informational ordering process ensures your satisfaction. Here's how it works:

Granite Countertops Bridgewater, MA

Have questions about our countertop installation process? We're here to help – contact our office in Harwich, and we'd be happy to give you a more detailed explanation. Now that you have the rundown on our process let's take a look at some of the most popular countertop material choices available at Granite World, Inc.

Before placing an order, by stopping by our shop or by a request through email, our sales rep gathers all the information necessary such as customers name, address, phone number and email to proceed with the stone selection process. Our sales team will guide you towards this process as well as all the details related to the project. A material must be selected to work on an estimate along with the rough dimensions given by the client or contractor. As soon as stone is picked out and all factors are discussed, a quote is created for customer's review. Once approved, the order for the material is placed making sure it will be delivered in time for your project. Templates are scheduled by first availability and the lead time for fabrication is up to 15 business days, starting from the date when we receive all the necessary information. Please note that any missing details – such as the type of sink you have, number of faucet holes, and edge choice – may cause a delay in your order, even if your template has been completed. Our team will make every effort to complete your order as soon as possible based on the availability of slabs and the time required for fabrication.

Your job site will be ready for your template once cabinets, panels, and all necessary appliances such as your stove, cooktop, faucet, draft, and other items are on site. If by any chance all the above are not ready by the template date a re-template charge will be at customers expensive.

You should have a look at your slabs and approve them before a template for your countertop is created. Once your template is complete, we recommend that you participate when your layout is finished, before your slab is sent for fabrication.

It is mandatory for the homeowner or a designated decision-maker who is over 18 years of age to be present during the entire template process. This person will be required to answer questions related to:
  • Corner Radius
  • Seaming
  • Overhangs
  • Other Special Designs
For that reason, we recommended that this person should be familiar with your project. This person will also be asked to initial the template and paperwork related to the project. To create your granite, quartz, or other type of countertop, Granite World uses a laser template system. If we are templating over an existing countertop, everything must be removed from the counter to get accurate measurements. The laser software we use is very sensitive, so it is necessary to clear the room of any other work being done. If there are people walking around the room and causing the equipment to move, we won't be able to measure, and we will have to reschedule the appointment at the customer's expense.

At Granite World, our team calculates the price of your order based on the measurements you provided to us during your initial consultation. Once your template is complete, our team will re-calculate the necessary square footage for installation. If it differs from the initial measurement, we'll adjust the price accordingly.

In case there's a request on time of sale to remove the countertop that we will be replacing at an extra cost, we require the plumbing to be disconnected as we do not provide plumbing services. We also do not reconnect sinks, faucets, or cooktops after install. The removal is done at the same time as installation. If you require an under-mount installation, we will cut out, polish, and drill the surface to accept mounting brackets. As for drop-in sinks and cooktops, we will cut out the necessary holes on-site, and some dusting should be expected during the process.

Avoid completing the final wall preparation, such as painting or wallpapering, prior to installation, if possible. Although our installers will take precautions during the countertop installation process, it is still possible to cause scrapes, punctures, or digs. Any such damages are considered incidental, and it is the responsibility of the customer to repair them.

Seaming on your countertop is determined by the fabricators. These seams typically range from 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch and may be visible to the naked eye or felt to the touch. To form the seam and blend it in with the countertop, color-coordinated epoxy will be used. While customers will be consulted regarding seam location, the fabricator reserves the right to make adjustments if necessary.

It should be noted that residual dust should be expected during installation. You may want to cover areas of your home to prevent dust from the construction area. We will leave your home in broom condition.

Granite Countertops in Bridgewater, MA: The Natural Choice for Durability and Versatility

Granite is one of the most popular natural stones in the market. As an igneous rock, the granite you're considering was once molten. It was formed as it cooled inside the earth. It is quarried from the mountains of Italy, the U.S., India, Brazil, China, and dozens of other countries around the world. Here at Granite World, we are passionate about this high-quality natural stone and recommend it for a variety of installation purposes, such as kitchen countertops, floors, and other surfaces that undergo heavy usage.

Minerals within the granite look like flecks and are what give it the classic "salt and pepper" look. Other types have veining similar to marble. Generally speaking, granite is a dense-grained, hard stone that can be highly polished or finished in a variety of ways depending on your family's needs. A broad spectrum of colors is available to match the color palette and feel of your home.

What Makes Granite Counters So Popular?

Granite is a highly durable and attractive option for kitchen countertops, floors, table tops, and exterior applications like cladding and curbing. It is available in a range of colors and has been rated as the best overall performer among kitchen countertop materials by a leading consumer magazine.

Unlike synthetic surfaces, granite is incredibly resistant to scratches and heat damage. It is also highly resistant to bacteria and does not get affected by substances like citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, or wine. Even with regular use, granite does not stain easily and is almost impossible to scratch. If you want to enhance your granite's resistance to staining, our team can provide you with more information about sealants available on the market.

3 Timeless Ways to Complement Your Granite Countertops in Bridgewater, MA

If you are looking to add a touch of elegance to your kitchen, granite countertops can be a great option. With their intricate patterns and wide range of colors, they can transform a bland cooking space into a bright and merry room. However, since granite counters often steal the proverbial show, it can be tricky to design your kitchen around them.

Keep these easy design tips from the Granite World team in mind once you settle on the color and application of your granite counters:

Granite World Bridgewater, MA

1. Granite Countertop Decor

Keeping your kitchen looking tidy and organized requires avoiding cluttering your countertops with too many items and decorations. However, you can still enhance the look of your kitchen by adding a few carefully selected decorative items. If your granite countertops have specks of bright colors like green or purple, you can try using appliances, flowers, or decorations in those colors to make the specks in your countertops stand out. This will add a pop of color to your kitchen and elevate its overall appearance.

2. Cabinet Color

Brown, tan, and gray hues are all very popular color choices for granite kitchen countertops. As such, it's wise to choose a cabinet color that complements the natural tones of your countertops. That way, you can avoid creating an overwhelming look in your space. A warm white or a deep, moody color can be used to highlight the beauty of the countertops. If you prefer stained cabinets, pick a shade that matches the colors of your countertops.

3. Floor Pattern

Having a bold pattern on both your countertops and your floors can make your kitchen look cluttered and overwhelming. If you have granite kitchen countertops, it's a good idea to opt for a simple floor design. Choosing a plain tile or wood floor is usually a safe and practical choice.

Quartz Countertops: Elegant Design and Easy Maintenance

Quartz is a type of igneous rock that is made up of oxygen and silicon atoms in a continuous structure of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra (SiO4). It is one of the most abundant minerals on the planet and has been used in the production of kitchen and bathroom countertops for many years. Much like granite countertops in Bridgewater, MA quartz is an excellent option as it is highly durable and requires minimal maintenance.

Why Do Homeowners in Massachusetts Love Quartz Kitchen Counters?

When it comes to stone choices for your kitchen countertops, quartz ranks among the best choices available. But why? Let's find out.

Beauty

Beauty

Quartz countertops have become increasingly popular in kitchens, and for good reason. They are designed to imitate the everlasting beauty of natural stone, providing a wide range of captivating colors and patterns. Whether you prefer the sophistication of marble or the simplicity of solid colors, quartz offers endless options to match your preferences. With professional installation services from Granite World Inc., quartz kitchen countertops can effortlessly enhance the visual appeal of any room.

Durability

Durability

As a homeowner, you're probably aware of how quickly kitchen countertops can get worn out. Luckily, quartz is a material that can withstand the daily rigors of wear and tear – even if you have kids. That's because quartz is a unique blend of natural quartz crystals, resins, and pigments, making it a highly durable surface. With quartz countertops, you don't have to worry endlessly about scratches or stains ruining the beauty of your kitchen. It is a highly resistant material, making it an ideal choice for busy kitchens and bathrooms that see a lot of activity. In fact, its scratch, stain, and heat-resistant properties make it perfect for everyday use.

Easy Maintenance

Easy Maintenance

It can be frustrating to spend your weekends cleaning and maintaining your countertops. However, by choosing quartz countertops, you can eliminate one task from your to-do list. Quartz surfaces are non-absorbent, meaning that liquids won't seep in, and bacteria won't be able to breed. If there are spills, cleaning them up is as easy as wiping the surface down with a mild detergent and water. There's no need to spend hours scrubbing, buffing, or polishing. As an added bonus, you won't have to worry about sealing your countertops regularly, as you would with granite or marble.

Granite World Pro Tip: Is quartz tough? Yes. Is it indestructible? Unfortunately, it is not. Quartz is a surface that can be damaged permanently by exposure to strong chemicals and solvents that can weaken its physical properties. You should avoid using products that contain trichloroethane or methylene chloride, such as paint removers or strippers. Also, stay away from any highly aggressive cleaning agents like oven or grill cleaners that have high alkaline and PH levels.

Will Bridgewater and Raynham OK overrides to avoid 'devastating' B-R layoffs? Tax impact?

RAYNHAM — The future of the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District budget for the next school year will come down to override elections in both towns.

Monday's Annual Town Meeting in Raynham —attended by hundreds of residents — voted by a more than four-to-one margin in favor of holding a Proposition 2 1/2 override election this summer to fund the giant increase in the budget the school district has requested.

The Bridgewater Town Council already approved a special election and will vote on June 21 for an $8 million override, $6 million of which is for B-R Schools.

Raynham will vote on a $3.9 million override on a date to be scheduled soon by the town’s Select Board.

Four-hundred-sixty-three registered voters attended Raynham's Annual Town Meeting Monday, May 19. The vote to move forward with the override election was 372 in favor and 91 against.

Back on March 26, the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School Committee voted to increase the district's budget for next year by 17%. This was many times higher than what the towns of Bridgewater and Raynham both indicated they would be able to fund — an increase of 4.7% from Bridgewater and 3% from Raynham.

As a result, both towns will now hold special elections on whether overrides will close that gap.

B-R schools ask towns more than 20% increase in funding

The B-R school committee approved a $106 million budget for the 2025-2026 school year — which is funded by the towns as well as state aid.

The school committee requested from Bridgewater an increase of $7.6 million or 23%, bringing the town's payment from $33.1 million to $40.7 million.

But the Bridgewater Town Council instead allocated $34.6 million, a 4.7% or $1.6 million increase over this year — leaving the remaining $6 million difference to be made up through the override vote at special election.

As to Raynham, the school committee requested an increase of $4.6 million or nearly 22% over this year, bringing the town's payment from $21 million to $25.6 million. But Raynham Town Meeting instead approved $22.2 million, a 5.7% or $1.2 million increase.

Finance Director for Raynham Christopher LaViolette told The Gazette that of the $1.2 million increase, $700,000 of that includes money previously allocated by the town for capital expenditures for the B-R School District. That is why the override vote for Raynham will only be for $3.9 million, not $4.6 million.

What is a Proposition 2 1/2 override?

Under a Massachusetts law called Proposition 2 1/2, cities and towns can only increase the amount of money they collect through property taxes each year by 2.5% plus an amount corresponding to how much "new growth" the city or town has seen.

If a town wants to increase its property tax revenue by more than 2.5% plus new growth, a majority of voters must approve a budget override.

Most towns, like Raynham, must first get approval through town meeting before an override vote by ballot can be scheduled. Towns with a town council form of government, like Bridgewater, require a majority vote by that governing body to schedule an election.

'Devastating' layoffs if overrides fail

B-R Superintendent Ryan Powers said dozens of layoffs are on the table, between 30-45, if an override does not pass.

Powers said the district cut 24 positions before the start of the current school year, and, coupled with the threat of 30-45 more cuts, means losing between 55-70 positions over two years. He called that “devastating” and said that “greatly impacts our ability to provide our students with the education they deserve.”

Powers said at Monday's Raynham Town Meeting the school district has grown by 400 students over the past five years to its current enrollment of 5,682, and “expenses are growing faster than our revenue," especially for transportation costs and special education, which, he said, presently comprises 20% of the district’s student population.

“We are out of compliance a lot of times,” with special education needs, said B-R School Committee member Rachel King at Town Meeting.

According to a B-R presentation, the enrollment increase has led to large class sizes. If the district can’t bring back those 30-40 positions, class sizes will reach as high as 45, depending on grade.

In addition, as many as 40 elective classes won’t be offered to high school students due to lack of available teachers.

If the override passes in both towns, the re-hiring or reestablishing of 30-40 positions can keep classroom sizes down to a high of 27.

King said, “We want the community to see the effect.” With this override, “You will see the difference and impact on our schools.”

How much will overrides cost average tax payer?

According to assessments done by both towns, the impact on property taxes for residents if the overrides were to pass are as follows:

Superintendent: 'Now, the real work starts'

Powers, the B-R superintendent, said the next step will be a whole lot of outreach from the B-R community to both towns, trying to gain support over the next month for what will be an uphill battle.

"We need to make sure we are educating all the voters. Now, the real work starts for me, for the school committee, and for the towns," Powers told The Gazette after Monday's Raynham Town Meeting.

What happens if overrides don't pass?

If one or both overrides is rejected, the B-R district may go through a 1/12 budget process, which is a monthly temporary budget that the state can impose for the entire fiscal year.

Raynham resident James Dupont, who in years past previously served on the B-R Regional School Committee for several decades, said at Town Meeting options after a failed override vote include the School Committee reassessing the proposed school budget to a smaller number, or, if one community passed it and the other didn't, giving the community who voted it down the opportunity to reconsider.

The school district, Dupont said, could also hold a joint town meeting, with voters from both towns, to vote whether or not to pass the proposed budget, which could result in either service cuts across both communities, or the scheduling of another override election.

Powers agreed with Dupont's assessment.

A Massachusetts man said the sting of an Asian needle ant left him feeling sick. The invasive insect has been spreading across the U.S., and experts say their venomous sting can potentially be deadly.

Norman Chipman was cleaning his backyard pool in Bridgewater in June when he felt a pain in his hand.

"I didn't really pay attention to it until it kept stinging me," he said. "That's when I looked down and saw that it was an ant."

Painful sting

He shook the ant off and kept going about his business - but the sting kept hurting.

"I could feel the pain spreading a little bit throughout my hand," Chipman said. "After about 20 minutes I started to just not feel well. I got a little bit of a headache, just felt lethargic."

He said he continued to feel sick the next day, but has felt fine since then.

Chipman said it was a "good-sized" ant, and he fished more out of his pool. He said pest control company Terminix confirmed he had Asian needle ants on his property.

"I thought, this might be the one of those needle ants that are showing up on my Facebook feed," he said. "When Terminix came out, he looked at it and said, 'yeah, that looks like what we've been told about.'"

Asian needle ants

A Terminix scientist told WBZ-TV that Asian needle ants are outcompeting native ants in local ecosystems, and reports of them in the northeast are on the rise. They say the ants prefer wet areas like pools, and homeowners should limit moisture around their home by checking hose faucets and air conditioning for any leaks.

A U.S. Forest Service report from 2021 says the ants are "beginning to cause problems in North America." It said the most troubling characteristic of the invasive species is their sting.

"While they are not terribly aggressive, like the more familiar red imported fire ants, their stings are painful, often affecting different people in different ways," the report said. "In fact, the sting can result in life-threatening anaphylaxis, an acute allergic response."

People who are sensitive to ant or bee stings should always keep an epinephrine auto-injection device on hand, experts say.

"Unfortunately, as with many invasive species, it appears Asian needle ants are here to stay," the Forest Service said.

GRADUATION

The Enterprise

You might expect a commencement speaker to try giving graduates pearls of wisdom. This one brought cash.

Telecom CEO Robert T. Hale Jr. surprised more than 1,400 Bridgewater State University undergraduates with envelopes of $1,000 cash at the Friday, May 16 commencement ceremony at Gillette Stadium.

"This represents how kind-hearted BSU is and how they're continually committed to giving back to their students," said accounting and finance major Reagan Taylor in a video produced by the university, "and rewarding us for the hard efforts we've put in to our degree and it makes me really proud to be a Bear."

A previous scene shows her opening her envelopes with friends and flashing her cash to the camera.

Hale, founder and CEO of Granite Telecommunications, gave each graduate two envelopes with $500 in each.

"The first $500 is for you, to celebrate your accomplishments," Hale told the graduates. "The second envelope says ‘give’ on it. Give that $500 to somebody or another organization who could use it more than you. Share in the joy of giving."

“Rob’s gift embodies the spirit of service and leadership we strive to instill in our students,” Fred Clark, president of Bridgewater State University, said in a statement released by the Bridgewater school. “His example inspires our graduates to lead with compassion and purpose.”

Who is Quincy billionaire Rob Hale?

BSU said that since Hale founded Quincy-based Granite Telecommunications in 2002, he has given away more than $400 million to cancer research, education, and community causes. His fortune has earned him a spot on Forbes' list of the world's richest people.

The university emphasized its role in preparing students for careers in science and technology, saying it educates the most teachers and STEM teachers of any university in Massachusetts. The school also highlighted a new way it plans to make education affordable: Starting in fall 2025, The Bridgewater Commitment will cover the full cost of tuition and mandatory fees for in-state undergraduates from families earning $125,000 or less.
