Granite Countertops in Hingham, MA: The Natural Choice for Durability and Versatility
Granite is one of the most popular natural stones in the market. As an igneous rock, the granite you're considering was once molten. It was formed as it cooled inside the earth. It is quarried from the mountains of Italy, the U.S., India, Brazil, China, and dozens of other countries around the world. Here at Granite World, we are passionate about this high-quality natural stone and recommend it for a variety of installation purposes, such as kitchen countertops, floors, and other surfaces that undergo heavy usage.
Minerals within the granite look like flecks and are what give it the classic "salt and pepper" look. Other types have veining similar to marble. Generally speaking, granite is a dense-grained, hard stone that can be highly polished or finished in a variety of ways depending on your family's needs. A broad spectrum of colors is available to match the color palette and feel of your home.
What Makes Granite Counters So Popular?
Granite is a highly durable and attractive option for kitchen countertops, floors, table tops, and exterior applications like cladding and curbing. It is available in a range of colors and has been rated as the best overall performer among kitchen countertop materials by a leading consumer magazine.
Unlike synthetic surfaces, granite is incredibly resistant to scratches and heat damage. It is also highly resistant to bacteria and does not get affected by substances like citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, or wine. Even with regular use, granite does not stain easily and is almost impossible to scratch. If you want to enhance your granite's resistance to staining, our team can provide you with more information about sealants available on the market.
Granite World Pro Tip
When it comes to granite countertops, high-end options often equate to unique patterns and enhanced durability. However, a higher price doesn't always guarantee better quality. At Granite World Inc., we provide raw materials from the top distributors available. 3 Timeless Ways to Complement Your Granite Countertops in Hingham, MA
If you are looking to add a touch of elegance to your kitchen, granite countertops can be a great option. With their intricate patterns and wide range of colors, they can transform a bland cooking space into a bright and merry room. However, since granite counters often steal the proverbial show, it can be tricky to design your kitchen around them.
Keep these easy design tips from the Granite World team in mind once you settle on the color and application of your granite counters:
1. Granite Countertop Decor
Keeping your kitchen looking tidy and organized requires avoiding cluttering your countertops with too many items and decorations. However, you can still enhance the look of your kitchen by adding a few carefully selected decorative items. If your granite countertops have specks of bright colors like green or purple, you can try using appliances, flowers, or decorations in those colors to make the specks in your countertops stand out. This will add a pop of color to your kitchen and elevate its overall appearance.
2. Cabinet Color
Brown, tan, and gray hues are all very popular color choices for granite kitchen countertops. As such, it's wise to choose a cabinet color that complements the natural tones of your countertops. That way, you can avoid creating an overwhelming look in your space. A warm white or a deep, moody color can be used to highlight the beauty of the countertops. If you prefer stained cabinets, pick a shade that matches the colors of your countertops.
3. Floor Pattern
Having a bold pattern on both your countertops and your floors can make your kitchen look cluttered and overwhelming. If you have granite kitchen countertops, it's a good idea to opt for a simple floor design. Choosing a plain tile or wood floor is usually a safe and practical choice.
Quartz Countertops: Elegant Design and Easy Maintenance
Quartz is a type of igneous rock that is made up of oxygen and silicon atoms in a continuous structure of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra (SiO4). It is one of the most abundant minerals on the planet and has been used in the production of kitchen and bathroom countertops for many years. Much like granite countertops in Hingham, MA quartz is an excellent option as it is highly durable and requires minimal maintenance.
Why Do Homeowners in Massachusetts Love Quartz Kitchen Counters?
When it comes to stone choices for your kitchen countertops, quartz ranks among the best choices available. But why? Let's find out.
Beauty
Quartz countertops have become increasingly popular in kitchens, and for good reason. They are designed to imitate the everlasting beauty of natural stone, providing a wide range of captivating colors and patterns. Whether you prefer the sophistication of marble or the simplicity of solid colors, quartz offers endless options to match your preferences. With professional installation services from Granite World Inc., quartz kitchen countertops can effortlessly enhance the visual appeal of any room.
Durability
As a homeowner, you're probably aware of how quickly kitchen countertops can get worn out. Luckily, quartz is a material that can withstand the daily rigors of wear and tear – even if you have kids. That's because quartz is a unique blend of natural quartz crystals, resins, and pigments, making it a highly durable surface. With quartz countertops, you don't have to worry endlessly about scratches or stains ruining the beauty of your kitchen. It is a highly resistant material, making it an ideal choice for busy kitchens and bathrooms that see a lot of activity. In fact, its scratch, stain, and heat-resistant properties make it perfect for everyday use.
Easy Maintenance
It can be frustrating to spend your weekends cleaning and maintaining your countertops. However, by choosing quartz countertops, you can eliminate one task from your to-do list. Quartz surfaces are non-absorbent, meaning that liquids won't seep in, and bacteria won't be able to breed. If there are spills, cleaning them up is as easy as wiping the surface down with a mild detergent and water. There's no need to spend hours scrubbing, buffing, or polishing. As an added bonus, you won't have to worry about sealing your countertops regularly, as you would with granite or marble.
Granite World Pro Tip: Is quartz tough? Yes. Is it indestructible? Unfortunately, it is not. Quartz is a surface that can be damaged permanently by exposure to strong chemicals and solvents that can weaken its physical properties. You should avoid using products that contain trichloroethane or methylene chloride, such as paint removers or strippers. Also, stay away from any highly aggressive cleaning agents like oven or grill cleaners that have high alkaline and PH levels.

In a thrilling display of determination, teamwork and heart, the Hingham Little League 11-year-old District team etched its name into history books on Sunday, July 20th, becoming the first team in Hingham Little League history to win a 12 and under Massachusetts State Championship.
After a rocky start to their District Tournament with a 6-1 loss to Cohasset, Hingham refused to back down. Instead, they rallied together, going on an incredible 11-game winning streak that carried them through Districts, Sectionals and, ultimately, a Championship win in the State Finals.
“This team never gave up,” said head coach Matt Elio. “That first loss could’ve broken their confidence; instead, it lit a fire. Every player stepped up, game after game. They believed in each other, and they made Hingham proud.”
After losing to Cohasset in game one of District Pool play, Hingham had to win their remaining four games to advance out of pool play. Hingham bounced back with a 10-2 win against Scituate, followed with a 4-1 win vs. Norwell, a 10-1 win against Whitman, and finished pool play with a 10-0 win against East Braintree.
Hingham hosted Abington in the District Semifinals game in which the bats came alive and Hingham won 21-0 in 3 innings to earn a date in the District Finals against rival Milton National. Hingham beat Milton National 6-1 to secure the District Championship.
Hingham advanced to the Section 2 Championship game with an undefeated 2-0 record in sectional pool play with wins over Bridgewater (12-2) and Swansea (4-2). Hingham hosted the Section 2 Championship at Carlson Field. In what was an epic pitchers duel with the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Hingham broke it open when the Bridgewater ace was pitch-counted out of the game. Hingham scored 10 runs in the inning to secure the Section 2 Title and punch their ticket to the State Final Four Championship in Danvers.
Hingham played Holden, a perennial Little League powerhouse in the State Semifinal. In yet another pitchers duel, Hingham grinded out a 2-1 win and advanced to the State Championship game where they would face Parkway, who beat Beverly 10-0 in their Semifinal game.
The State Championship game, played in Danvers on Sunday, July 20th, saw Hingham take an early lead and hold on through tense late innings for a 7-4 victory. Hingham’s pitching and defense got them out of three bases loaded situations. After the final out, Hingham players stormed the field in celebration of clinching the Team Massachusetts title.
Throughout the postseason run, Hingham showcased a potent combination of lights-out-pitching from Patrick Kirk, Matthew Collard, Clark Sigovitch, and George Tzanetakos, clutch hitting from Max Labrie, Will Whitcher, Hugh Hurstak, William Bowes, Declan Greenman and Connor Khtikian, and incredible defense from Brennan Elio, Henry Wenstrom, and Sean Harold.
“I’m just so happy for the boys,” said Hingham Head Coach Matt Elio. “This team has worked so hard over the past month, and not only have they showed up and played great baseball, but the sportsmanship, growth and resilience they’ve demonstrated throughout their journey has been special to watch.”
The key to Hingham’s success in the post season was incredible pitching and defense. After the loss to Cohasset, the team only allowed 15 runs in 11 games and going into the State Championship game, the team made only 1 error in 10 games.
With the title win, Hingham now advances to the prestigious Eastern Regional Tournament, hosted by Beverly Little League where they will compete against 11 other State Champions from across the Northeast – spanning from Washington, D.C., to Maine. Hingham opens up the Eastern Regional against the Rhode Island State Champion on Monday, July 28th.

With profound sadness, we share that Michael “Mike” Allen LaRhette, 56, of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away in a tragic boating accident on the morning of Saturday, August 9, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, supportive brother, and a treasured friend, Mike’s loss is deeply felt profoundly by his family and the countless people whose lives he touched.
Mike was the husband of Jennifer LaRhette for 25 years, and father of Nate (22) and Ben LaRhette (20), all of Hingham, MA. Son of the late Allen LaRhette and Joyce Riley, Brother of Laurie Daily, Lisa Beckwith, and Justin Riley, and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Mike grew up in Windham, Maine, and attended Cheverus High School, a Jesuit high school in Portland, Maine. He was a proud graduate of Boston College, and later Boston University, where he earned a Masters of Education in Psychology. Following graduation, Mike spent a year in Jamaica teaching English to an all-girls school and coaching a local boys’ high school basketball team. He always spoke so highly of this experience and the calling to “serve others”.
His career reflected this lifelong commitment to helping others grow and succeed. Throughout his most recent positions as President of MassChallenge and Chief Business Officer of LabCentral, Mike’s leadership was defined by kindness and an inspirational belief in the potential of others. His ability to think strategically and bring people together left a mark on the biotech and life sciences community.
Mike and Jennifer filled their home with love and laughter, raising their two sons, Nate and Ben, who were the pride of his life. He found immense joy in coaching his sons’ youth basketball and baseball teams, attending sports events, and hosting friends at his home. He adored his dog, Charlotte, whose companionship, on and off the water, brought him great comfort. He enjoyed traveling, always with a sense of wonder and openness to what the world had to offer. He instilled this passion in his family, taking them to see different parts of the world, including trips to Thailand, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Paris and more. Mike enjoyed lively, feel-good music and frequently danced along, much to the amusement of his sons. At family gatherings, Mike loved inventing games and challenges to keep everyone engaged, entertained and laughing. During the holidays, he was notorious for unabashedly snagging the best slice of coffee cake, or the last chocolate chip cookie.
His Boston College friendships were a cherished part of his life. For decades, he never missed the group’s annual reunion trip, proud to be the only member with a perfect attendance record – a reflection of his loyalty and devotion to the ones he loved. Mike took pride in helping others and watching them succeed. He listened first, spoke with confidence and care, and offered guidance that left a lasting impact. His friends, family, and colleagues will remember his quick wit, warm smile, and the way he approached life with positive energy and creativity.
He had a deep love for the water and spent countless happy hours boating. The ocean was his place of peace, adventure and a space where he felt most alive. It is bittersweet to those who loved him that he spent his final moments in the place he cherished most.
To say Mike will be missed is an extraordinary understatement. His life was a gift to all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend the visiting hours on Saturday, August 16, at the Hingham Community Center, 70 South St, Hingham, MA. Words of remembrance will be shared from 11–12 PM, followed by visiting hours from 12–3 PM (continued at the Hingham Community Center). In lieu of flowers, please consider doing something kind for someone in need.
